In 1890s, Unilever began with the vision of William Hesketh Lever, the founder of Lever Brothers. As a young man helping out at his father’s store, he envisioned selling packaged soap to promote cleanliness as in those days, uncleanness lead to many sicknesses. William had a mission in life to make cleanliness and hygiene a top priority in every home. He started manufacturing soap in a plant at Port Sunlight.
